About Course
Psychological First Aid (PFA) Workshop for Youth
What is PFA?
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a practical set of skills used to help yourself and other people in distress immediately during and after a crisis. Think of it as “Look, Listen, and Link”
PFA for Yourself
- Look (Self-Awareness): Watch your own reactions.
- Listen (Acknowledge): Listen to your own needs.
- Link (Connect & Act): Actively connect to your own supports.
PFA for Others
-
Look (Awareness of others): Assess the situation for safety and check other people for urgent needs. (Parents, teachers, friends, family etc).
-
Listen (Acknowledge other people’s suffering and pain): Approach people with kindness, listen to their concerns, and comfort them.
-
Link (Connect and Act): Connect to essential services, information, and social supports to help them regain control.
PFA is about providing a safe, supportive presence and stabilising yourself or another person until professional help is available or they can cope on their own.
